Storyline

The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep is a thrilling animated feature set in the expansive world of The Witcher, based on the beloved book series by Andrzej Sapkowski. So I watched The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, and honestly, it was a pretty decent experience. It’s got that classic Witcher feel, but it leans heavily into the book-style storytelling—so if you're more into the games and not really into the books, this might not hit the same way for you. Animation-wise, it looks great. The quality’s there, and the voice acting is solid—especially with some familiar voices coming back from the games. That really helped keep things grounded in the Witcher universe. What threw me off a bit, though, was the way the story jumped into things. It kinda felt like the movie expected you to already know certain backstories or dynamics. Like with Agloval and Sh’eenaz (the prince and the mermaid princess)—their relationship just… exists, and you’re supposed to go with it. It wasn’t bad, but it left me with some questions. Now, here’s the thing: parts of the plot gave off a Disney’s Little Mermaid vibe. Not in a cute way, but more like, “Oh, this again?” It was a little too easy to predict who the bad guy was, how the romance would play out, and who wouldn’t make it. If you’ve read A Little Sacrifice by Sapkowski, you’ll notice they tweaked quite a bit—probably to flesh things out for a full-length movie. Some of those changes made sense for the format, so I get it. The movie kicks off with Geralt and Jaskier chasing a monster for coin—standard Witcher stuff. But things quickly escalate when the creature turns out to be innocent, and Geralt gets pulled into a bigger conflict between humans and mer-people. What follows is a tale of manipulation, war, and moral dilemmas—all while Geralt tries to keep the peace and find the truth. Overall? It’s enjoyable. Some slow moments, but the action makes up for it. It’s not perfect, but fans of the lore and universe will probably still appreciate the ride.
