Storyline

Three years after the destruction of the Jurassic World theme park, Isla Nublar has been abandoned and left to the dinosaurs who now roam freely across the island. But nature is once again threatening them — this time, in the form of a massive volcanic eruption that could wipe out all life on the island. With the world divided over whether these genetically recreated creatures should be saved or left to perish, a bold rescue mission is launched. Claire Dearing, the former park manager, has now founded the Dinosaur Protection Group, an organization dedicated to saving the dinosaurs. She is contacted by Eli Mills, who works for Benjamin Lockwood — the former partner of John Hammond. Mills invites Claire to help relocate the surviving dinosaurs to a new sanctuary. But to track and capture Blue, the last remaining Velociraptor and the most intelligent of them all, she needs help from Owen Grady, a former dinosaur trainer and Blue’s closest human connection. As the team sets out on their mission, they soon realize that the rescue operation is not what it seems. Eli Mills has a darker agenda — he plans to auction the dinosaurs to the highest bidder and use their DNA for military and genetic experiments. Among the new creations is the terrifying Indoraptor, a dangerous hybrid dinosaur engineered for combat and control. As chaos unfolds, Claire and Owen must not only save the dinosaurs from extinction but also stop a new era of dinosaur exploitation. The story takes a dark turn as dinosaurs are brought to the mainland, threatening to alter the balance between humans and prehistoric creatures forever. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is a thrilling mix of action, science fiction, and emotional drama that explores themes of ethics, extinction, and the unpredictable power of nature.

(SPOILER ALERT) Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), directed by J.A. Bayona, is a visual spectacle with plenty of action and even more dinosaurs, but unfortunately, that’s about where the excitement ends. While it tries hard to be a thrilling blockbuster, the movie stumbles over a shaky plot, underwhelming performances, and a much darker visual tone that doesn’t quite match the adventurous spirit of the earlier films. Honestly, out of the five Jurassic movies, this one is probably the weakest link. The story kicks off with a pretty interesting premise: Isla Nublar’s volcano is about to blow, putting all the dinosaurs at risk of extinction—again. Bryce Dallas Howard’s character, Claire Dearing, is now a full-blown dino-rights activist and wants to rescue them. She teams up with the mysterious Benjamin Lockwood (played by James Cromwell), a former partner of John Hammond, to relocate the creatures to a safe island. Lockwood’s right-hand man, Eli Mills (Rafe Spall), brings Claire on board because of her connection to the park’s tech, and in turn, she ropes in Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady to help track down Blue, the clever velociraptor from the last film. The first half of the movie takes us back to the island for a sort of dino-rescue mission. Owen, Claire, and their new team—nerdy tech guy Franklin (Justice Smith) and dino doctor Zia (Daniella Pineda)—join forces with a rough group of mercenaries led by Ken Wheatley (Ted Levine), who is just as shady as he looks. Things go sideways fast, and not everyone makes it off the island smoothly. As for the performances? Meh. Chris Pratt feels like he's on autopilot compared to the first movie, and Bryce Dallas Howard doesn’t bring much new to Claire this time around. Rafe Spall’s villain turn is forgettable, and it’s a bummer that the franchise continues to sideline iconic characters like Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), who brought real brains and heart to the original trilogy. Once the action leaves the island, the second half takes place in Lockwood’s gothic mansion, and suddenly we’re in a completely different kind of movie. Think less jungle adventure and more creepy haunted house—but with dinosaurs. There’s an underground auction where dinosaurs are being sold to the highest bidder, revealing Mills’ real plan: to profit off of the creatures and fund more bio-engineering. This is also where we meet the Indoraptor, a brand-new hybrid dino that’s part Indominus Rex, part velociraptor. It’s definitely creepy, with its glowing eyes and horror movie vibes, but it doesn’t have the same awe or terror that the T. rex commanded in the original film. It feels overdesigned and almost cartoonishly evil. Despite the flaws, Fallen Kingdom pulled in over $1.3 billion worldwide, proving there’s still a huge appetite for these prehistoric thrill rides. But here’s hoping that the next installment, Jurassic World: Dominion, ups the game and gives us something that feels more in line with the heart and wonder of Spielberg’s original masterpiece.
